Snowy Reflection on What Makes a Good Shelter

So, the snow really fell here last week -- here is a photo of the white stuff.

And, with this comes the realization that it takes a lot to provide good shelter. To keep the cold out, we take for granted the walls, windows, and doors that are able to keep the warm in.

And, the walls must be insulated to keep heat in and cold out. Doors and windows must shut tight to prevent drafts. And, your shelter must be able to keep you dry.

Quite a staggering list of requirements for a tree house that is four seasons capable. Many people do it, however. Here is a photo from Erikire on Flickr called "Audun's Treehouse in December." It is such a cute little treehouse nestled in the branches. It appears to have good overhead roof protection and tightly buttoned up walls and windows. Definitely looks well enough built to keep a person dry. And, being dry is half way to being warm.
